This feeling has got to stay.
Birthdays: way overrated. Next year I’ll just tranq myself from June until the end of the world. One fun thing came out of this one: Whitney Hodgin graciously dragged me along to a concert at the KC Starlight Theatre.
Don’t miss No Doubt with Paramore at Starlight Theatre on July 6, 2009. Hailing from Orange County, CA, No Doubt emerged in the 1990s as one of the country’s hottest new-wave ska bands. Bolstered by the strength of lead singer Gwen Stefani’s vocals and personality, the group achieved commercial success with breakout singles "Just a Girl," "Spiderwebs" and "Don’t Speak." Stefani launched a solo tour in the early 2000s and grew into superstar status. The reunited group, featuring Stefani , Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young, are touring in 2009 for the first time in four years.
Here’s Paramore (I know how crappy my camera is, so you’ll just have to take my word for it):
And here is the featured performance.
I am aware of how difficult it may be to make out much detail, but that very glow does, in fact, surround and flow from Gwen Stefani no matter where she is or what she is doing. That is a proven fact.
I enjoyed the whole thing well enough, 90s nostalgia et cetera, but not without a comfortable hazy numbness which, in times like this, is absolutely necessary. Hindsight even provided some new perspective on the event:
Slinkyrie: Wow 3 no doubt songs in a row!
Slinkers: fuck them. thanks for reminding me.
Slinkyrie: Fuck who?
Slinkers: no doubt, for delivering that epic flood of casually heartbreaking lyrics with an irresistable ska/pop sound that makes you want to sing and dance and shout for joy at the same moment you’re secretly depressed over bad memories. fuck them. i hope they come back soon though.
Slinkyrie: Haha! Nice! Just came inches from hittin bambi.
Slinkers: way to buck against danger
